It is important for professionals to have an adequate understanding of changing timelines and equip themselves for ways to prepare students for the college affordability process. Participants heard first-hand from a financial aid counselor at the University of Texas at Austin.
December 7, 201612 noon CST College Fit & Admission Processes Navigating admission processes for a diverse range of institutions can be a daunting task for counselors. In this presentation, admission professionals will obtain tools and resources for assisting students in their college search process. Key points in the college admission process will be highlighted.
January 18, 2017, 12 noon CST OnCourse, Plan Early. Plan Smart. A statewide initiative to advance postsecondary and career success across Texas The session will introduce Texas OnCourse, an innovative professional development academy, which aims to improve advising and streamline student postsecondary and career pathways.  During this session UT Austin will discuss the project plan for engaging a consortium of partners, establishing a competency based learning system, and promoting the program across Texas with strategic marketing and a microcredentialing incentive structure.
February 1, 201712 noon CST Comparing Award Letters As admission professionals prepare for changing timelines of award practices, it is important to be prepared in understanding core principals and structures for how institutions award aid to students. In this presentation, counselors will explore award letter types and obtain tools for assisting students in comparing them in their decision-making process.
March 1, 201712 noon CST Summer Enrichment & Bridge Programs Summer exploration is a vital time for students of all grade levels – even those matriculating to a college or university. Participants will obtain information on summer opportunities for current high school students as well as bridge and transition programs for exiting seniors.
April 12, 201712 noon CST NACAC Step by Step Curriculum: College Awareness and Planning for Families, Counselors and Communities If you’re looking to learn about a valuable tool for walking students through their journey to college, this session is for you! Participants will obtain tools and resources highlighted in this curriculum designed for those who work with underrepresented and underserved students, provide comprehensive tools for meeting the needs of first-generation students and their families.
