Mentorship

TACAC provides professional development through mentorship to members. The objective of the Mentorship Committee is to increase awareness and importance of building relationships between admission professionals while fostering development to gain leadership on the state and national levels. The Mentorship Committee works to match mentors and mentees at various levels of the profession. 

Through this program, admission professional pairings will be able to decide on activities and assignments, which could be completed on an individual basis. The facilitated partnership is a structure and series of processes designed to create effective professional relationships; guide professional conversations that foster growth and development; encourage TACAC involvement; and promote networking. 

The Mentorship Committee defines mentors and mentees based on the following criteria:

Mentor – Individuals with 6 or more years of experience in a job role that will advise and guide a less experienced professional.
Mentee – Individuals with less than 6 years of experience in their current position who is open to guidance and advice from an experienced professional.
Note: Individuals may elect to serve as both a Mentor and Mentee if their background fits the criteria.

Structure:

The mentorship relationship lasts for one school year, starting in the late summer through the following annual conference. When possible, the mentorship committee attempts to connect a mentor and mentee within the same geographic region and in similar positions. The committee also hosts a mentorship reception at the annual conference for those involved in the program.
