Middle Management Institute

    

The TACAC Middle Management Institute (MMI) is a professional development program designed for both current and aspiring managers working on the post-secondary side of our profession. MMI program attendees can expect a rigorous curriculum built around dynamic educational sessions and collaborative learning experiences between program participants.

We are excited to announce that for MMI 2020, we will be offering a one-day track for secondary counselors, community-based organization staff, and independent educational consultants.

 *Participants must be TACAC members and be current with membership dues. Capacity for secondary/CBO/IEC participants will be limited.*

Our Program

While sessions change from year to year, TACAC’s Middle Management Institute commits to addressing three main themes from a managerial perspective each year:

  1. How we work with students in the college admissions and counseling profession
  2. How we work with other professionals
  3. How we work on ourselves both personally and professionally

We believe that these three cornerstones of our program allow us to create a new curriculum each year while ensuring consistency in the quality and overall mission of our program.

Professionals attending MMI can also expect to participate in our intensive case studies. This part of our program requires cooperation, critical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure as we simulate situations that managers face in admissions and recruitment offices. Our case studies require small groups (simulating admissions offices) to work together while attempting to achieve a common goal under strict deadlines. As our profession necessitates, this fast paced simulation will also ask that you are prepared for the unexpected!

I walked away from MMI with so many tips on how to be a more effective supervisor. The sessions left me very introspective about the types of things I could implement in the office to create a more effective and rewarding work space for my team.  The presenters provided really great information about how to manage different personality styles and how to advocate on behalf of others. Program Cost:
Secondary/CBO/IEC Participants: Free of charge
College/University Regular Registration: On or before January 3, 2020 - $185
Late Registration: January 4 – January 17, 2020 - $235

 

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: Requests for cancellation and/or substitutions must be submitted via email to TACAC.
All refunds are subject to a $15 processing fee.
Full refunds (less processing fee) will be made for cancellations made before January 3, 2020.
A half refund (less processing fee) is available if the cancellation request is received between January 3 - 17, 2020.
No refunds will be processed for cancellations received after January 17, 2020, or for no shows.

MMI Fellows

Middle Management Institute Fellows program is designed to offer financial support to aspiring or current managers who work in a setting adversely affected by budget cuts or limitations to participate in professional development opportunities 

MMI Fellow recipients will receive:

  • Complimentary one year individual membership TACAC membership
  • Complimentary conference registration fee
  • Shared conference hotel accommodations for two nights (with another grant recipient)

2020 MMI Fellows Application and letters of support will be due December 1, 2019.
